Is there something I can add to the water that will help make the brown algea go away??

Nope.
Can you syphon it off?
If your tank is newly cycle or cycling then it is normal. If it isn't then you need to get to the root of the problem.

What type of water are you using? Do you have a 'cleaning crew'?

It sounds like diatoms, basically it is there because the bacteria needed to get rid of it has grown yet. In My opinion, wait it out, it will balance itself out. It looks horrible but your tank needs to grow the stuff to compensate for it so it doesn't come back. (or so I have read. granted I may have over simplified).
