I personally dont like it, but I can't make a blanket statement and say it is definatly bad.
IME its the only salt I have ever had fogging issues with (and that could have just been a bad batch) I dont like it.

I don't know what you mean by "fogging" - but so far I haven't run into a problem with it... but time will tell - and you know a heck of a lot more than me!
Anyway - sorry to hijack the thread to the OP

Yes, using RO/DI water is in my opinion the best for top off make up water. However, upon startup, tap water (at least in my local area) is perfect to start up a tank with. Using tap water actually makes my tanks (and my clients tanks) cycle faster upon startup.
Though, over time, RO/DI water is the only water I recommend for top off. I am definately not defending the use of tap water on a perminate basis, thankyou...
