watts per gallon

Can someone tell me the minimum watts for gallon I would need to introduce simple leather coral to my tank

the WPG rule is nonsense... it's par that you need... as in lights capacity to 'punch' through all that water...i wish someone will make a sticky about light/lighting choice for reefing aquariums. anyhow, how high/tall is the tank???
