Eric, I have the same tank, and I use a 1/2' seaswirl on a Sen 700 return pump, and 2 Maxijet 1200's on a wave strip. Personally I love it, the tank looks great and there is plenty of circulation!!
As far a a used one, depends on a used what. There are many different types of wave makers including DIY types.
IMHO They are definetly worth it!!
