well just got done reading MichaelTX thread on power company.
I can really sympathize with anyone going against corporate businesses.
My situation:
A year ago, DirecTv started sending out 100k threat letters to people they believed were pirating their signals. I got one of them. Since I have never pirated their signal, I wasnt worried about it. Yes, i had been a subscriber, but got tired of $50 per month for television, so I cancelled and got local cable ($10 per month). A couple months later, got another letter threatening to sue me for $10k, but I still wasnt worried, didnt even have recievers in the house, they were boxed up in storage shed. Well, 4 months later, get served with a federal lawsuit by DirecTv, saying they had evidence that I was stealing, and they stated factually that i was doing it. Hired an Attorney. We challenged the suit. Now my attorney recommends settling, even though I have done nothing wrong, on the grounds that it will cost me anywhere between $5K to $20k just to get the case dismissed. DirecTv wants me to pay them $1000, their attorneys get $495, and I had paid my attorney a $1000 retainer, most of which is used up from telephone calls to DirecTv Attorneys, billed at $150 / hour. So lets say $2500 and I havent done ANYTHING wrong!! OH YEAH, the clincher is, I have to promise not to steal any more signals!!!!!!!!!
you cannot fight american big business in federal court. you go to the poorhouse just trying to defend yourself.
So the moral is:
CANCEL YOUR DIRCTV ACCT, pppllllllleeeeaaaaassssseeee.
