Hello,
I've had my live sand and rock in a 55 gallon tank for two weeks the shrimp has completely decomposed and disappeard, also have been ghost feeding the last couple of days and all i have got is .25 ammonia and 0 for the trites and trates. How long does it take i would have thought by 2 weeks i would have got something by now, what is your guys opinion and input welcome thanks

was the liverock cured or uncured? how much of it? if it was cured then Ammonia is already going down and you missed it..
If not cured then just wait until ammonia hits 0.. and don't feed daily.. do it every other day or every few days , not much only whatever you would feed a small fish..
keep checking ammonia and Nitrites... you want this two to hit 0. before you do anything else.. if ammonia wants to get Higher then .5 or 1 then you can do a water change if you'll like..the point is not to let Ammonia get above 1.
cycling takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks..

So that's it.. you missed it, now just wait unitl ammonia and Nitrtites get to 0 by itslef. then your tank is cycled. by then you can start with the waterchanges, i would do a 50% for the first WC, then just keep up with the regular 10-15% WC's..

Sounds to me as if you may have missed the cycle as well. In fact, your tank may well be fully cycled now. There are some test kits out there that do give a false reading for ammonia at .25 Red Sea being one of them. Might be worth taking a water sample into your LFS and have them do a verify check.
