Week one done with fish. :)

IMO I would just leave them in the tank for now, add the shrimp, l/r, or whatever you decide. I think the fish will be fine, either way they are still going to go through the cycle unless you return them to your lfs. i would leave them in, they are hardy. good luck.

Just went to the LFS and had them check out my conditions. Zero for everything!! woo-hoo. They suggested that the reason for the incorrect ammonia reading may be due to the water conditioner i use. It gives a false positive. Guess i should invest in getting RO water. I am taking donations :D

i have a 55 gal fish only tank with five damsels. its in its fourth week i have yet to register any ammonia, but my nitrites are peeking and im assuming they will be dropping soon hopefullly within the next couple of days.

Adam&Jeane - what else do you have in the tank? LR/LS - what type of filter do you have? Sounds like your biofilter is taking a while to grow. No worries, your getting there.

we have crushed coral and dolomite. it contains a power filter mounted on the rear of the tank and an undergravel filter. we were told by our lfs it would take a little longer but would be ok for a fish only tank. we are in no hurry whatsoever, but we are a little curious as to what the ultimate signs are that the tank has completely cycled and we can remove the damsels and replace with something else?
