I was looking at my tank tonight and on the return pipe above the water level was a strange lloking algae growing. I pulled it off and the best way to describe it woul be it was a thick mat like moss and a very dark red color. What is it??

Im guessing that it may be cyanobacteria.
Definitely not cyano.....I've already combated that and won....and like I said, this was above the water level.
Isent that was some call mat algae? I think there is a big thread about growing that in your sump on a sheet to take Nitrate outs I think. I think it might be the same stuff I get on the top of my overflow boxxes.
Think about an ocean or lake you have been to. There is alwasy algae growing at and above the water line on the rocks. Usually looks like a mat. Not to worry here. You can clean it off at water change times if it is unsightly to you.
