there is some red coraline algae growing on my live rock, but there is spikes comming off of it. it kind of looks like there is hair comming out of the tips of the spikes. there is also some that is not like that and it is purple. i just dont know if the red stuff os ok or not. i havent had any coraline algae until now because i just started to add calcium about a month ago. any ideas on what it could be, and if it is good or bad.

Sounds like a foram. It's a sessile invertebrate that secretes a calcium based skeleton just like hard corals do. They are typically a sign of good biodiversity in a reef tank. Hard to tell without a picture, though.

Looks like some type of sponge to me.....not sure but thats my story!!
Seems I've seen sponges like that in pics....but not real close up like that.
Also there are snails that stay in one plce that build a cone....they sort of use a thin line to catch and feed off of stuff....can't think of the name of them..... <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />
