i have this weird algae growing on the side of my tank. its not red slime because i rubbed it with my finger and it didnt go away, and its not coraline algae cause its not pink and dosent look like coraline. there's a whole lot of it too. they appeared in about a weeks worth of time. what is it?

Let it grow and see if it turns frilly like the post Spanko offered. I have redish purple, bluish purple, light and dark green, orange, pink and velvet red coraline. So saying it isn't coraline because it isn't pink is no indicator.

Is it fuzzy? Is it soft? Is it slimy? Almost looks like gracilaria.

i have the same thing growing and no its not like the picture it doesnt turn frilly.. the mag float wont scrape it off.. when you touch it , it basically feels like the glass. only way i found to get it off is by razor blade and it peels like a apple skin.
Does this sound like the same thing Mr clownfish???

I have not taken a razor to it, but I do know the magnet does not work on it

it could be a type of coraline not really sure i dont have alot of it but it likes to grow on the front panel of the tank so i take it off... havent really paid any attention to the other sides of the tank but thats mostly covered with coraline algea so it would be hard to tell anyhow...

It is such a close up picture it looks like a skin problem LOL
If it doesn't go frilly I am guessing it is coraline...

i really dont think it is coraline just for the fact when you scrape coraline you can feel the coraline its a hard substance...this stuff doesnt just scrape away it peels away and it isnt near as hard as coraline algea. im beggining to think its a type or a layer of some bacteria much like cyno... but im surely not sure what it is....

i dont think its bad cause i have an anemone and a shrimp. if it was anything bad then they would die, but they are doing great.
