Reno,
Sorry I missed this post. Big congrats. Don't let people talk you into more than one if you guys are happy. I love my little Anna she was born on Christmas Eve 04. Lots of luck to you and your wife.

Congrats, congrats, congrats! And like everyone has said, don't blink, cuz before you know it they're 36, 27, 21 and 17, like mine. Now I'm onto the grandkids (3 so far). It's really nice being able to spend time with them then buy them loud toys to send them home with......lol!
I'm sorry about the morning sickness, I was lucky enough not to have it with any of my four.

FYI if you haven't begun saying "we're pregnant" mark my words you will. You'll start to crave things just as she does and when she's pizzed you'll be too and you'll be happy when she is. Seriously, take advantage of the cravings. My wife hates bbq and I would just talk about pulled pork, beans, turkey, etc. and get her all worked up and we'd be at the Smokin Pit within the hour. Doesn't work so well anymore so start playing the hand you're dealt.

hehe np eb :) it's funny, she hasn't started cravings yet, but one thing that is odd is she started hating tomato products. she used to slather hamburgs and meatloaf in katsup, and she almost puked from the smell the other night. she said she wanted to try V8 to get more vegies, and she dry heaved.
i can stand helping out with the cravings, but i can't afford to gain the weight along with her (she's 110 lbs, so she's nervous about gaining the 25lbs everyone is saying she will because of her back)
reefernana--everyone's saying the same thing, that this will fly bye in no time. I sure hope not, but with the way the past 14 years out of high school have gone, i wouldn't be sruprised if the baby is born next week LOL.

Congrats, Renogaw! Awesome news. I am in my 20th week...I'm half way thru....with my 4th baby!!!
Never mind right now what she eats....as long as it isn't McDonald's everyday. For the first 4 months the thought of a salad made me want to vomit! But I had one last night and it was awesome. See if you can encourage fruits, crackers, milk, juice, anything relatively healthy. If she's concerned about weight gain, stay away from carbonated drinks, except maybe ginger ale if she is still nauseated.
And do watch out for those cravings. In my first 3 pregnancies, never really had one, but this time, it's Chinese food! Ugh! So, now I make my own so I don't have to worry what's in it. I think the baby is gonna come out Chinese!!!
And remeber...exercise! Even just a stationary bike, to keep her feeling good!
And backrubs, maybe brushing her hair, comfort stuff like that!
Keep us posted on all the news!

we went for the first visit with the nurse practicioner yesterday. I'm seriously disappointed with this dr's office.
all they did was verify past family history, tell her she needs to get some blood work done, not to eat certain foods (cold cuts, hot dogs), and then did her yearly checkup (i left the room for this...). Then on our way out, they gave us a little bag with some vitamin samples and some informatin pamphlets.
They didn't go over what nutritional needs she needs to worry about, which vitamins to use, how to deal with the nausea, how much excersise to get. I figured after her checkup they'd call me back in and i could ask this stuff but the lady was already onto the next person :(
so now the next visit is actually with a doctor, but in 4 weeks. We could be doing everything wrong and not taking any vitamins. why wouldn't they go over this stuff when they know it's our first child? would planned parenthood be a thing to look at for more information?

Reno, Not to woryy...Us moms will help out in any way you need....
First, what's wrong with cold cuts and hot dogs?????? I have eaten them with every pregnancy and my kids are ok...I think. Did she explain why to you? One food to eat on a limited basis is fish. Because of the mercury contant. I think fish, tuna fish, whatever is ok once a week. Get the book, "What to expect when your expecting" Good food choices there. As long as your wife does not have diabetes, her food choices are almost endless, providing she doesn't over eat.
Exercise is fine. Anything she did last month is ok this month. However, eventually jogging could get to be too much and crunches. Also in the book I mentioned above.
Basically, the first viist is much what you expirienced. This is all new for you, but for the nurse this is all routine. And there really isn't much going on....yet! Just you wait, the visits get better and better. You get to hear heartbeats and then ultrasounds. Past family medical questions are vital in the health of your baby, so what seemed boring and long winded to you, is very important to how your doctor and nurses care for your wife and baby. And unfortunately for us ladies, the yearly check up is also a must <sigh>.
Really, your first visit accomplished what is was supposed to. However, if you continue to dislike your provider, then you can certainly look for another that suits you best. You can also look into midwives. Also in the book I mentioned.
Also, if the NP didn't perscribe a prenatal vitamin, ask. There are many brands to choose from. Also, OTC prenatals are ok, too. I prefer one with a stool softner, because the iron content in the prenatals are high and can slow things down in mom's body. In other words, constipation!
Have your wife eat plenty of veggies and friuts, or whatever she can hold down. Any questions, ever, you can email me at rabbit_72@charter.net . But buy that book. It will make you BOTH feel better!

okay, so I grabbed my copy of the book I mentioned. Here's what should have happened at your first prenatal visit, according to the book. Please remember, that many doctors will have a NP or a PA do the first visit. Mine did.
1. Confirmation of pregnancy.
2. Complete medical history
3. Physical exam
4. Tests (blood, urinary)
5. Discuss any symptoms
According to this book, they say to make a list of questions. Anything that you need answered. Doesn't matter how small or how big. This is all new to you, so don't be afraid to ask ANYTHING! I know the first visit probably felt anticlimatic. You have waited so long for this little miracle. Well, it is still a miracle and you should be very proud! The visit might have seemed like a let down, but it was very important! As your visits progress, you will find each visit is a step to a better life for your little one!

there's some preservative, starts with an L (lyso something) that all sandwich meat and hotdogs have in it (with the exception of boar's head brand she said), that is detrimental to development. She said not to eat farm raised salmon since it's more contaminnated than wild (surprising huh?) and that tuna in water, crab, shrimp, and a couple other omega fatty fish are fine in moderation and are suggested to be put in the diet.
she said no out of breath excercising at all (means high heart rate) and we sorta figured on the situps (probably hard with a basketball in your belly :).
we did get that book though, and is the only sourse of info we've really received so far.
will update in a month :)

Well, she gave you all good advice...but I still never heard of the hotdog and cold cut thing...I'll have to remember that on my next visit. I have always known pregnant women who have eaten these things. Wow, learn something new eveyday...and this is my 4th baby!

well, i bought some "real" ginger ale online, and it actually burned like ginger does and has ginger extract in it. I had to buy 24 cans, and paid total of $24 including shipping. I think it came in on friday. 2 cans open, and wifey can't stand it. I don't like ginger ale, so there's $22 i'll never see again (figure a buck a can) :(
on the flip side, this morning she woke up for the first time without having to go to the bathroom 4 times over night and wasn't feeling sick!
