Well Florida people! Are you ready for a hurricane?

Heck with getting out, you see the crazies trying to leave. I live above sea level, and I'm on the third floor, if the poo hits the fan, I'm going to camp out in my apartment, bbq with the windows open in my living room and smoke a big fat stogie or two.

I am from Houston, and my family all live in the suburbs of Houston. I remember the season Katrina hit there was a storm that was heading towards Houston. MANY people died trying to evacuate. MANY people lost pets trying to evacuate. It was crazy. I think sometimes people don't understand that everyone "getting out" can be just as dangerous as the storm. What happens when people run out of gas? What happens when the traffic is so backed up that people end up riding out the storm in their cars. Evacuating is not as easy as it sounds. I know that if everyone tried to get out of Miami we would definatly have problems. Besides, Florida is a peninsula, where exactly is everyone going to go?

what i find funny is that people been dodging storms for decades before tv/radio/innerwebz etc. do you think florida in the 1800/early 1900's knew that a hurricane was coming ahead of time? maybe if a ship came in just before it hit.
i think they evac people to reduce their liability. they shouldnt be liable in the first place. common

sense says a hurricane is coming, maybe i should leave.

There is no point in running, out of houston, you'll run out of gas before you get to huntsville. Heck with that. When Rita blew through, people literally slept in their cars or crammed in church and school gyms. It is just useless. There was no food to be purchased no gas. No hotels, I'll stay at the house.

That is the storm I was talking about! I couldn't remember the name. They went through all of that and my mom said that it just blew over a few trees and knocked the power off for a day. Thankfully, my family ignored the media's advice and stayed home!
