I just had to post the fact that I offically hit and broke the $2500 mark with my Salt Water habit. I started off in Jan, with the grand idea of changing my ciclid tank over to a sw aquarium. I am so much happier for the fact that I did this, but the only down side is the financial costs of everything... I am so addicited, it is scary..
Long story short, to any people just getting into the hobby, get ready to spend some money!!
PS, I got some new stuff today and will post some pics of the tank setup....

Wait till you have about $1500 of livestock in a tank when something horific happens and it all gets lost, thats a killer! I had a 58 reef fully stocked, went on vacation and sometime during the 2 weeks water splashed out onto a power cord and dripped down into the powerstrip which in turn fird my VHO ballast and tripped the breaker which cause a loss of power to the upstairs of my house. The worst thing was when I was in Europe and got a call from the person who was taking care of my tank, my heart sank when they told me everything was dead :(
It was a hard hit to take and after that my 58 went down for about 3 years but I still had a 75 reef in another room of the house that survived the ordeal. I have since re seeded the 58 and am working it back up to its former beauty.
I have prolly spent over $5000 since I got into this hobby but I feel it was the best $5000 I could have ever spent.
P.S.
I have been running Salt Water Tanks for a little over 5 years now.

Oh I am so glad I am not alone! I have a 90 gallon. Started my saltwater frenzy almost 2 months ago...about had a heart attack at my costs....I was worried about hitting $1000.00!! Oh I wish it was only a grand!! I have since decided not to dwell and enjoy!!! I try to not even add it up anymore because it stresses me, so I just keep it going...too far in to give up now. btw, I am sure I am well past 3000.00 now...

i spend 3k on my 220 and that wasnt even sand, water salt, rock or ozonizer. That was the tank, skimmer, lights, wet/dry and stand.

I've been justifyiing my tank's expence by counting on the savings from NOT smoking for the last 35 years or so
If I decide to go reef then I'll just use the money I save by not taking UP smoking in the future!

What is your opinion of the Ozonizer? I havent ever seen a reason to even think about getting one.

it works like 20 times better than a uv sterilizer. I put it in my new tank and the water was crystal clear the next morning and so blue. It was worth the money.

drip loops won't work well if the power strips are below them.
the best way to prevent any electrical shorts is to get all your electrical outlets above all the plumbing, preferably away from the tank.

I just realized that if someone could "rob" everyone on this message board they would probably have well over $1 million.
Ya, im doing reef. The lighting cost me over $1000 alone, and its only a 90 gal.:nope:
