My water comes from a municiple water supply, could someone tell me the problems (in detail if possable) with using this water in my tank? I tested it and it contains no ammonia, nitrites or nitrates and a pH of 7.4

The major things to check would be for phosphates, silicate, chlorine, cloramine, copper.
My tap water had all these.
There is probably a whole list more that someone else could tell you.

Do a search for water changes and you will find a wealth of experience with any water other than RO or distilled water. Most who have used it have had major problems after a period of time. Some have lost everything. This is an expensive hobby, my personal opinion is that saving a few pennies by using water from my tap is not worth the risk of losing the dollars I have in my tank. Just my 2 cents. I currently buy distilled at the grocery store. Since I have 4 tanks I will soon invest in an RO unit.
