Well today we decided to let our boxer play with the neighbors Doberman pups, one is a year old and the other is 3 months I believe. My boxer is going on 2 years old. Well they played for a good hour, no problems. I was in the yard holding my 8 month old daughter Gabrielle, along with my neighbor and my wife and we were standing around talking when out of nowhere, the older dobe jumped up at Gabrielle and bit her on the cheek. Instinctively I pulled her up and away from the dog and the dog jumped back up and bit me in the back area of my arm. The baby of course screamed her head off, my wife took her in the house, my neighbor grabbed his dog and put her up and I did the same with mine. The baby quit crying by the time she was taken inside however we washed out the wound and decided to take her to the hospital to get checked out. My neighbor met us at the E.R. around 7:30 and from there on we waited, got seen, waited, got seen by someone else, waited some more, got seen by the doctor, she got 3 stitches to her cheek. They wrapped her up so she couldn't move while they were giving her novocain and doing the stitches and she screamed her poor little head off. I hate hearing her cry like that. She's fine though. A tough little cookie. My arm is fine, I was wearing a pretty heavy sweatshirt so she more so scratched/rug burned my arm so again, no worries there. It's just be a really rough night. Just thought I would share and let a load off my chest. Take care and have a good night.
Jason.

Whoa. I feel your pain. My daughter is 2 and I couldn't imagine. How bad was the bite? I would have killed that dog if it attacked my daughter.

my son was 16 months when he had to have a minor procedure.
he was hysterical when my wife had to hold him while they put the needle in his foot for the anesthesia. when they administered it, he was even more hysterical then just went lifeless as it kicked in.

This thread is going to explode in a few hours. It will bring folks out of the woodwork screaming for vengance on the dog so I wont waste my breath.
Sorry you had such an ordeal but I am certainly glad you and your family are ok.

we had something similar. The "papoosing" is rough on the kids and worse on the parents I think. But its best for the child. Glad everyone is OK. Don't be surprised if you hear from animal control.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate them. And I understand how people will react about the dog. And as it usually goes, i'll say the dog is a good dog. Overly playful but not a bad dog. I think the biggest mistake was one I made in having the baby with me in the yard with 3 playing dogs. Hindsight is 20/20 but I can say she'll never be out there again. She'll get to play from the comfort of her play yard.

Yeah I know they told us last night at the hospital. Which like I said, I know the dog wasn't attacking but it's procedure and our neighbors were telling us to do what we have to about animal control and I felt bad for them because they felt so terrible and they're about ready to give her up.
They've been talking about having kids and wondering how she'd be with them and now Beth is terrified to even allow her around people. :(

I'm glad everything is okay now. I hope she doesn't end up scarred physically or emotionally. Do what you can to make sure your daughter is not afraid of dogs.

Thank you! of course. no it was rather amusing. She's a trooper when it comes to being injured. We got her ears pierced at 3 months at the mall. She forgot about it like 30 seconds after it was over. And this was the same. The initial pain and shock made her scream but as my wife took her in the house, she was already laughing and saying da-da again. I will make sure she continues to love dogs. We have two and they adore her, especially my boxer. I don't think you could find two better best friends really.

OMG!! Rough evening is an understatement. Poor little thing. Is she okay today? That's just a tough situation all around, for you and your family and for your neighbors. Sorry.

I have a boxer also named Uma (better suited for a dog imo). She follows my daughter around everywhere and sleeps with her sometime since she's in a day bed now. It's funny seeing the two packed into her crib when I wake in the morning not to mention all the stuffed animals. My wife wants to get a bichon frisse (sp?) but I say only boxers they are the best dogs.

Thank you Lisa! Yeah she's fine, she's got a My Little Pony band-aid over the stitches for now and she's at this very moment, yelling da-da-da-da-da and banging her bottle against her play-yard. I think the ones most upset by this all were our neighbors. They love Gabby so they were distraught and of course seeing as it was their dog. But everything is fine.

Yeah our boxer is Luna. She's the same way. Gabby likes to play with her mouth folds and Luna just sits there and takes it and licks her. I agree with you, they're great dogs. We're gonna breed her at least once. She's a brindle with beautiful coloring. My other little girl.

Awwwh thank you Lauren! She'd say thank you too if she could (i'm working on it) lol. It'll be fine, they stitches come out on friday. They don't want them in too long as to avoid scarring and getting that railroad tracks look stitches give.

Usually when it's bumps and bruises i'm like most dads and i'm all "oh you're fine, rub some dirt on it" But I must admit I was a little frightened at first. And no, no plans on having her put down. She'll be alright. :)

I am glad your daughter is ok. If you truely feel that the dog is not a threat then tell animal control that. Dogs can get over zealous when they play. My Jack (9" tall, full of power) has bit my nephew several times while my nephew and son were playing. He caught him on Sunday while the boys were wrestling around after watching Wrestlmania. My Jack has never drawn blood, he just grabs my nephews pant leg and shakes it. Sometimes he catches the skin. He wasn't showing teeth or being aggressive, just joining in on the fun.
