wet/dry filter Q

I know some people have the Pro Clear wet/dry and I am going to purchase the 150 pro series. My question is on this model the the skimmer compartment precedes the bio-media,which I want, but to buy this unit you have to buy it as a kit w/there motorized skimmer.
I have not heard the most positive responses on that skimmer and want to put an Aqua C Urchin Pro in its place. Has anyone purchased this model(pro series) w/out there skimmer.
The Pro Clear 150(non pro series) has no room before the bio-balls for a skimmer-kind of a catch 22.
This is for a 75 gallon FOWLR

You bet its a great skimmer, Im really impressed with it. I have the same make and model your getting. And its really easy to use and it works great!! I really dont like to tell people that they should buy this or that, but I would not be afraid to recomend this unit at all!! Its simply the best.
