can anyone ou there give me instructions on how to make a DIY wet dry filter or at least direct me to a site that has good instructions? Thanks I appreciate all teh assistance.
Well, since no one else wants to touch this one...A wet dry is made of several different elements.
1. overflow- either internal or external
2. biotower- the place where the media is located and the water pours through
3. the sump- where the water collects and is pumped back into the tank
Overflow- I'm assuming you already have this
Biotower-Look around for some Sterilite containers that could stack into each other and still have room on the bottom. The first one drill 1/8" holes into the bottom. The second cut out an opening on the bottom so water can pour out to the sump. Attach the overflow hose to the first container (this will act as a drip plate). You may have to add more holes or make them bigger depending on the flow rate. You want to have about 1" of water to have a nice even drip. The bottom you would fill with bioballs or whatever.
Sump- Use a rubbermaid container or small tank.

you can search this thread for wet/dry plans (luke g) myself and another member posted pics of diy wet drys. you can email me for more specific descriptions of the one I built if you like. It is working great on a 200 gal tank.
