hydrogen sulfide? That's definitely not good...
Be prepared for another water change and some prime/amquel on hand. Things may get really irritated soon.

Oh yes,.... been there done that. We bought back these cool looking snails from the beach. Turns out their are meat eaters and when my wife added in some zebra snails....... the ocean dweller ate them up like they were eating a bag of lays potato chips. Can't eat just one! But by the time we figured it out, 2-3 of the zebras were already dead and fumigating the tank.
Needless to say, they went into my 56 and now they come up to the top and I give them a small scallop. They eat it and go back down into the substrate and sleep for a couple of days and then resurface for a free sea food dinner. For the most part, they are leaving my nass. snails alone. (knock on wood)

Interesting. So are you going to add cleaning your sandbed occasionally to your maintenance routine? How deep is your sandbed and how long has it been since you cleaned it? Do you think it's worth others to try? What's the best method to use? What equipment?

LOL....Seth....My 225G is 3 1/2 years old....sand bed is 3-4"......I have NEVER done this before, but have had an issue with algae on the sand....I was sent some articles on dsb and cleaning them, so I decided to try it....just one section....
ALSO..I used one of these....you hook it up the the kitchen sink...The best thing is you don't stir stuff up using this

Yup. That's what I thought. You should really start to see some water quality improvement when you get the rest of it done.

I'd be REALLY careful about disturbing the substrate, Lois. There are compounds in the anoxic layers that you definitely don't want in your water column. I wanted to mention this because I've spoken with folks who have nuked their tanx that way. Personally, I don't even like to disturb our SSB's...
