I have a featherduster i don't really understand how they work. I searched online but i'm still curious. There is a worm inside the tube and it lets out the feathers and the feathers gather the stuff it needs to eat out the water (filter feeder). is that right??
When they are born do they have a tube or do they make one?? does the tube grow?? what happens if you take the worm out of the tube, will it grow a new one or die??
I'M just curious, any other info on them??
thanks

yeah everything u said is right. when they are born they make there own tube. i think from there saliva (not sure) and as they grow it grows with them. i have no clue what will happen if u take him out.
ive never seen one out if its tube. i have a few baby ones that will turn out to be really nice cause they are pink and white. thats rare.

Well they have two stomaches. They filter two types of protein with the feathers. One is coarse food, that is used for building tube. They also use calcium I think. The other stomache eats small food. This is needed for growth. Feed them phytoplankton. Most think you just put in tank and they ok. You have to feed them. I use Kent Marine Phytoplankton.
The feathers have like hair on them. This moves the food to the middle, that one short antenna thing is next to the mouth. Its mouth is also where the waiste comes out of.
Mine has two worms in one tube. I hope it will leave but some stay. It split but in tube.

Yes they can loose the top. They can also have top break off, the top moves and grows new tube.
1 sexual, release into water need two worms and no coral (coral eats it they say)
2 asexual, they can split.
3 top, can make new worm.
The top can come off from stress or for reproduce.
