What are signs of things splitting

Being relatively new to SW, I have lots of mushrooms and a few pieces of pink/purple or lavender ricordea. I had orginally intended to buy this one piece of ricordea, but the lfs owner asked me to wait as he just acquired that piece and he wanted to make sure it was ok before he sold it and promised me he would not sell it. Needless to say one of the employees sold it...So when I made the trip back to get it and it could not be found, he said he would cut one off another piece of rock for me....The easiest one wa one abut the size of a half dollar, and he looked at it and said it appears its getting ready to split, so your probably going to wind up with another...So what are the signs that indicate they are getting ready to split.......Mine is pink / orange in the center and has a lavender / purple outer edge, and it gets all ruffled up and bunched up in one section and appears to look like its trying to sort of fold up on itself, to get rid of this extra fold.
Also, when shrooms divide, do they do it from the base / stalk or how? I have a nice shroom which seems to have some new sort of bumps coming out on the stalk near the base....Are these going to be baby shrooms or ?

Most of the time, when 'shrooms will spilt, you will see there "mouths" seperating, or there will be two mouths on the 'shroom.

well, i am at work, and cant find a pic. but if i am not mistaken, the first step it does is the mouth will split, and then the shroom will.

Yep.. thats how it works!
Some mushrooms like ricordea will 'split' that way. Some mushrooms will end up moving and they'll end up tearing off a small piece of their flesh as they do so, which creates a new mushroom.
Xenia will split often and it looks like a part of itself is pulling away from the rest of the stalk.
Things like Candy Cane Coral splits much like ricordeas.

Cool evidently I am gonna have me some more pink and lavender ricordea.......Now all I have to do is figure where I can put it in an already over crowded pico tank. My temporary 10 gal is not setup yet, and my 90 is still a month or two out of the picture........I am sure I can find a place though, as its never stopped us from buying more items when we go to the lfs..........Guess its called addiction.
I guess I am not too far from you there "me-n-my-fish".....guess abaout an hours drive. Have yu ever checked out Aquarium Fantasies in Montgomery? Supposedly Alabamas largest selection of fish and corals etc...........

Hey Chip, I have a really nice green ricordea that just split. If yours splits anytime soon you want to swap? I would love a chance to add some diffrent colors to the tank.

Hi Griffin...heck your only about an hours drive from me.........I often get to Red Level to visit with my friend there as well as a friend in McKenzie..............I am open to trading if my pink/lavender ricordea ever splits. It has all the indications of doing so.......just have to wait and see........

I never have been there. I will check it out. I have a computer nerd confernce up there soon for the state, i might need to take a detour!!!
Do you or thegriffin ever get down here? Might want to check out the Mobile Bay Reef Keepers. Also, Aquaworks in pensacola has a bunch of folks get together about once a month and hosts a "frag/equipment swap"
When i get my frag tank up and producing, might do some tradin!!

When ever it splits just let me know. As for Aquaworks, I've been to it several times. Tim has been really helpful. Hes the one I bought my 46gal bowfront from and helped me get started in this saltwater adventure. I've only had my tank up for about 1 1/2 months. I'm trying to start out with mushrooms and zoos. Hopefully I can start collecting diffrent kinds and colors of mushrooms and zoo from people since I can't afford full blown colonies at the LFS Hehe, got a whole tank to fill.

I have some yellow zoo's that look cool. yellow with green frillies. I also have some nice maroon looking ones. I will prolly frag them in a coupa months...i will make sure to keep an extra one to donate to your cause.
Tim is good. Really knows his stuff. I bought my 100 gal from him. Nice guy, i am heading down there after work today to see what hes got. Might have everything on specal (cant speel) again cause of the hurricane. Dennis, everything was 25 bucks each. Man, i spent some money that day

KDFrosty... Thanks for the offer. Let me see what I can get this weekend and I'll let you know sometime next week. Maybe we can do a thermos swap. Hopefully Katrina wont knock us around too much *crosses fingers* Luckily I only had a small 6 gal tank with a perc, damsel, and royal gramma when Ivan came through. My work (where my tank is) lost power for 3 days but I didnt have any casulties.

Sweet!! *grabs wallet, opens to find empty as moths fly out* Humm. Well, mabe they will have some cheap stuff. I'm hopping to swing by Fairhope, al on my way back to pick up some red shrooms and other frags that someone is going to give me for cheap. Maybe I can pick up some cool frags and start propagating them for you guys.
