So you paid $500 just for the metal halides? You can get a pretty sweet setup with antinics and moon lights for $500 from a online retailer or the same thing for $400 from an famouse auction site.

I don't do the online auctions anymore. I ordered a video card from a dealer with over 10,000 positive feedbacks thinking it was relatively safe. Long story short, it took me contacting New York's attorney general and the auction site's investigative team before the guy ever shipped me a working video card.... even then, it was used, not sealed in the box as advertised. Never again lol :)
As far as the price, I would do it again if I had to. The pendant-style makes my bedroom look really cool and all my friends say how much they like them. I personally don't care for the blue tint that the actinic lights give out. I even bought a couple of them that mount on the side of the tank and I returned them because they made my coraline algae, which was purple, look bluish.
Dunno if this helps justify my costs, but the pendants have double-ended HQI 10,000 lumen bulbs.
ps- I'll post a pic of my tank as soon as I get some more live rock. Right now I have all my anemones, clams, corals, and feather dusters crammed onto just 2 rocks and it is kind of embarassing lol. I got 90% of my livestock free from my biology department.

Hey thats cool about getting your livestock from school! im all for that. And double ended metal halides are the best, thats what are in mine also. And yes i took Micro, it sucked, i think you have to be a lunatic to teach it. Medical terminology was one of my fav. classes though. Good luck in micro!! todd
