What are the best powerheads?

maxijet's are nice... i have had start up probs with Rios to the point i went to hagen's .. and have heard others with the same probs..

Everything that you have heard about zoomeds are true! I bought one and it stoped sweeping back and forth so the darn thing ended up in my q-tank. I would go with the maxi-jets I have two of them in my 75 and I love them they work very well!

i would agree that maxijets are a very good one to get although i just found one of mine (about 4 yrs old) was putting a electrical charge in my tank. maybe the age dont know. with rios hit hit or miss one will work fine and the next is crap. burnt a 2500 in less than a year, rio 600 right out of box had a stray current. too say the least im trying to aviod them now.

I just got two MaxiJet 1200's for $21 each (seemed like a good price)- they should work just fine for a little more circulation...

i like hagens, i have a maxijet 1200 and 2 hagen 402's, my hagens are adjustable flow so i like them better

maxis or hagen(aquaclear only though)
maxis for price and reliability and AC's for reliability and funtionability(though the maxis are right behind them, IMO)
Definitely avoid rios, my major issue with them, is not that they are bad, but when they die, they can be hazardous time bombs in a tank.
and the Zoomeds, are nice in theory, but are short lived in sw tanks
the others, like penguins, and Hagen(not AquaClears) work, but are not worht the money saved, IMO. They just do not seem to pump enough fo rmy wants.

I have been using 2 maxi-jet 1000's for about 8 years without incident. They take a lickin' and keep on running.

301 + 402 aquaclear- i haven't tried any other hagens, i think the black hagens look better than the grey maxijet, but the mj 1200s are smaller than the 402s

Maxi-jets are my favorite. I do have a couple of rios that haven't given me any trouble either. the Zoom powersweeps are terriable had three break. They get 3 thumbs down.

I have both a Maxijet 400 and a Hagen Aqua Clear 400 in my tank. I like the Maxijet better. It seems to have a better suction mounting system.

I just did a poll last week or so and the Maxi Jet clearly won over any other power heads. The next one was the Hagen Aqua Clear power head. Which I use and like a lot. Those are your top 2 for sure.
Maybe I should bring the poll around one more time. For all of you who did not vote.
