I was just curious what the laws are regarding taking sand and fish from the water. I was looking for some online and couldn't find any. I am in the planning out my 300 gallon reef and was thinking of picking up sand the beach 10 minutes away. Just a thought ofcourse. Saving 200-300 dollars is always a thought. Cheers and thanks.......:D

Hey chef J,:) Sorry Pal, big tanks costs big bucks to fill ,
It is Illegal to take sand or rock, or coral,
you can take some sponges and gorgorians but there are limits, fish you can take you must have a saltwater fishing license, you can call 888 404 3922 Division of law enforcement to hear this for yourself, plus sand off the shore may have pollutants, sludge,
years ago it was legal, and I know some people that have taken some but from 90 ft down, So pay up:D

I made a damm good living off that additude,:D
I guess you have no responsiblities, that you can get arrested and or pay some big fines, or lose your car and or boat,
THINK before you post:)
oh and I forgot you can take saltwater too, but its Illegal to dump saltwater into the sewer or drainage pipes outside

Just swim out five miles from shore, to the international line (it is 5 miles right?). And find a nice sand bar with a reef near it. Now you can get all you want! Have fun swimming back with all that sand!
