100% correct. I owned a music store, left the spouse and gave it up along with the fish store. I used to say the same thing to customers. It is not the brand that matters, it is how the guitar feels and how it plays for you. We carried many different brands. Dean was our major one though. Sometimes people liked the feel and sound of a $100 Montana to the $250 Deans. It is all about the sound that you want. They sell low end of any brand that you are looking for though. You can buy a martin, gibson, fender, etc. for roughly $200. They used to be all high end brands but they have all made a lower end guitar. Brands are not the way to go when selecting any instrument.

i normally play a hamer 12 string bass (avatar pic). made in usa, about $1800
i opted for a lower end (import) dean 10 string bass $600.
very good in feel, very good in sound.
not to be cliche, but the instrument picks the player.
so thats why i said start low and work your way up the ladder.
there will be a point to where you find "the one"
