I am pathetic. I get cranky if I dont get a good dose of the beat every now and again. I travel quite a bit so I usually pick up history or science books to try and learn something during long flights. I would never subscribe to them but I do enjoy all the pop machanics styles magazines.

Good choice, I can't tell ya how many times I read "acid test", but quite a few. In later years, I usually chased it with "A Further Inquiry" by Kesey. If you like acid test, you might like the book "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S Thompson, the movie didn't do the book justice IMO.
I'm currently reading "A Fool's Progress" by Ed Abbey (again).

"Your Inner fish" by Neil Shubin. Find out how all the neat things that humans have (bilateral eyes, limbs, etc) were first tried in fish.

The Lone Drow -R. A. Salvatore, my brother sent me this series from Iraq and told me I had to read them so when he had a chance to call we would have more than a 5 minute conversation. If you liked The Hobbit and other fantasy books I highly recommend picking up some of Salvatore's books.
