Been using a Hartz product for my dog for the last 2 months and so far so good. Only about 1/3 the price of Frontline and Advantix and I am pretty sure they make a cat formula as well.
I wonder if price goes into quality or you get what you pay for would fall into this category?

Not sure, but my pup spends about 5 hours a day at a minimum outside and we havent found a flea or tick on him yet.

just be careful with the hartz product. we've treated several insecticide poisoning cases due to that stuff. watch for excessive itching, panting, lethargy - any strange behavior. And i definitely do NOT recommend this product for cats.
Prescription products (ie; frontline, advantix, advantage, vectra)are indeed more expensive - but they are also far better quality. The insecticides are better regulated, as are the administering agents. When you buy things like the Hartz products or bio-spot, you are basically pouring raw insecticides on your animals and run a huge risk of making them very, very sick.

Greetings

I use Frontline for my Persian cat Casey (aka "Casey's Lucky Ladies Man") who, by the way, is the BEST KITTY EVER. He is like the Fonzie of kitties

P.S. He is now 15 years old and was a birthday gift for my daughter when she turned 3... A recent photo...

+1 !!
I've yet to see any serious issues with any of the vet flea control products (one in a million may have sensitive skin, more likely reacting to the alcohol in the product than anything) and many toxicities involving "pet store" brands like Zodiac, Hartz and the Wal-mart brand. *shudder*
Dogs seem to be less reactive but really, there are better products out there and though the pet store brands are cheaper their efficacy is questionable at best and the risk outweighs the cost.
I wish we had frontline here in Canada! But Revolution, Advantage and advantage multi are all good products.

It's funny - every time I get him shaved, he turns into a different cat. He's spunky, playful and very loving. We've been doing it for years and, while he hates the process, he seems to like the results...
