What brand of cube?

I sold my 125g several months ago and regret it now, but it had gotten so expensive to keep up and was not really designed for what I was using it for. Anyways, I want to get a 24-29g nano and want some opinions from people who have experience with them. I was looking at either an Oceanic Biocube or a 24g Nano cube. Any suggestions?

I have a 12G nano cube deluxe, but I also like the tanks Oceanic offers. Too me it's just a matter of personal preference. Basically all the tanks have pros and cons (they all meet the basic needs of a nano tank), just go and compare them and get the one with the features and look that you like, after that it's up to you to create a successful tank, not the equipment, but that's just me

Ihave the JBJ 24, but if the new RED SEA cube had been out when I got mine, I would have gotten the RED SEA. It is AWESOME. My JBJ is great too, but I have done a lot of after market mods to make it work to its full potential. I bought a chiller almost immediately, added ph, upgraded lights, a skimmer and small fuge are in the making. We'll see. If I were you, I would get the RED SEA. Its a bit more expensive, but My guess would be worth every penny. Good luck,

A bit more expensive??? At the lfs that I bought my 29g biocube at, the Red Sea was 3 times what mine cost. And they didn't come with MH's either. I would spend that much on a much bigger tank, but not on a 34g. Anyway, I love my biocube, eventually you do have to get better lighting but everyone seems to have to do that at some point anyhow. You will most likely have to mod out the filtration, too, but that is easy and not expensive. The 5 extra gal from the 24's makes a big difference, too. IMHO that is!

I honestly don't understand why people buy the RSM. I think the BC 29 gal is better. Cost =$250, Sapphire Skimmer=$150, 150W MH Pendant=$200, Total = $600..........RSM is usually $650 to $750, why would you pay more for a crappier skimmer and CF lighting, when you could have good skimmer and MH for less. Plus too, I hate the fact that the RSM's lid is hinged = harder mods.
RSM owners please respond to my post, I really want to know what makes that tank so popular.

I agree, the lfs store that carries the RS wanted $800 and that was on sale. I got my 29g biocube for $250 and eventually plan on replacing my lights with the Sunpod 150MH that will be around $200. I do not have a skimmer and don't plan on getting one since I change 3-4g of RO/DI water weekly and keep my returns pointed up for surface agitation and have never noticed much, if any at all, gooky surface water. I, also, have a fairly large CUC that takes care of the rest. I'll take my 29 biocube over their 34 for worthiness anyday.

Yeah, that post was aimed at those who demand a skimmer. My tank has perfect parameters with a 5 gal. weekly water change. I'd prefer to spend the money on a uv sterilizer. So, I did. Coralife 9w fits perfect w/o mods to the hood.

Thanks for the heads up on the sterilizer. It's nice to know when someone actually uses something rather than having to buy it without knowing if it really works. Especially when you have the same exact tank and all, I appreciate it!

I was just checking out the sterilizer you have. Where did you add it onto your tank? You mentioned you didn't need to mod the hood. It says it's not to be submerged so you didn't put it in one of the back chambers, right? Did you somehow hang it off the back? Let me know if you can, now I'm curious how it would fit. Thanks!

The first is a picture of the UV in the tank, it rests on top of the 2/3rd chamber divider. The second shows a silhouette diagram of where it sits.
