What brought you to this site and why do you stay?

I found this site through researching corals and unfortunately late because I would have done some things differently from the start and are hard to correct now but some have been solved. I solved the crushed coral problem for example but I still have a damsel leftover from the cycle (did get rid of two of them), fixed the overflow noise (modified durso stand pipe) and there are other things that I could talk about but it's no biggie! Now I own 12 reef books (wife finds it weird seeing me read reef books at nite like I am some kind of biologist but I just like to learn!) and found this site and things are going much smoother.
Now why do I stay around? One, I like to pass along any thing that may help and there are many folks around here that know what they are talking about. And don't just go by the number of posts on an account but listen (read) what they have to say and crossreference it with books and other informative sites to see if the info you got here is accurate. If you find some conflict, let us know and talk it out. Somtimes there are clear cut answers and sometimes not. It comes down to your absorbtion of the knowledge and the make a decision. However, you should have accumulated a lot of details and should make the right choice.
Two, I have an addictive personality and I found this site first and for some reason I have to keep coming back

Sorry for the rant!

RANT AWAY....this site has taught me way more than I could have possibly learned from any amount of books in this last year and 1/2. I haven't posted alot...mainly just pics. but I am actually starting to feel like I may know a little something every once in awhile>LOL<
Like you said there are so many different ways to end up with the same results that there really are no absolutes in this hobby. Take what you here from various sources, compile it, and make your decisions. But the end result is we can all learn a little something or maybe find a better way , no amtter how much experience we have...IMO...

I was researching saltwater tanks and found this site. I stick by this site because I find the information helpful. I also have purchase most of my fish and coral from here. I find everything about this site useful including the customer service when you have issues with deliveries.

I actually found this site by a lucky mistake. I just typed in saltwaterfish.com expecting a search to come up. I didn't realize there was a message board for awhile. Just checked out the different fish on here. Then I found the boards. THANK GOODNESS!!!!!! I was having so many problems at the time. Now I keep comming back because I enjoy it and I like passing on the information I have recieved to others so they don't make the same mistakes I did. I know how it feels to get panicky because something is wrong in the tank. If I can help someone calm down and realize it is going to be ok then I am happy. :joy:

Glad y'all are here and I thnk most folks are here because of similar reaons. I think the internet has to be given some credit for the propagation of corals and fish because a lot of LFS aren't too helpful!

I saw an ad for SWF that said if I had any question, contact SWF. So, I did. They assigned me my username, Beth, and gave me a password for this site. I stuck around and a little while later, they sent me an email telling me that I was now a moderator!
This was in the early years of SWF.com. 6 yrs ago.

I was actually looking for another site, and stumbled onto this one, sl glad i did! I have learned alot even though I have been in the hobby for 20 yrs :scared: Back then it was all about underground filters and such. I got out of the hobby for afew yrs, and when i came back into it, I decided I needed to mosernize my SW methods and get with the times. So I came to this site for answers on all the new equipment, and here I stayed. I like helping others and still learn something myself all the time here. Thank you SWF.com, I really enjoy coming here

I came to this site on a recommendation from a friend. I am just getting into this hobby and we went to this site because they had the best deals on fish. I started perusing the message board and realized there is a wealth of knowledge here. I have looked at other message board sites but they are not a simple to navigate through.
I stay here mostly because I like attitudes of the members. People are very helpful and do not look down on you because you are a newbie.
Like I said I am brand new to this hobby. (I have been cycling for one week) I look forward to being here for a long time!

If you have any question and you type "salt water fish", well, hello! It has been a great experience both for my aquarium and myself.
No one who is reasonable and has the best intentions has anything to fear here.
Thank you SWF.com

I thought this was the only fish site! :notsure:
Heck I have no idea how I got here anymore. I was on one site that was full of advertisments and they screwed up my user name and I had to start all over. I found this site and never looked back... I still look around, I'm not dead you know.

My friend was researching angelfish he could put in his brand-new tank, after I saw it I took a look at the forums and I haven't gotten off my computer yet. This is the first forum I've ever joined seriously and (one day and about 50 cups of coffee later) the only reason I've been away from my computer and this website is to go to work. Is that a bad thing?
