Hopefully he is in like a 90 gallon or larger tank to keep him at ease. Hippo's are known for ICH bad! If you added him to an established tank without putting him into QT first there may be a problem. You will need to get some Nori sheets or seaweed sheets for him to eat. After awhile he should calm down and eat for ya. Just offer him several different types of food and he will start eating. Good luck. Also do research on him to find out more info. They like to play dead alot.

My Hippo goes nuts when I put any kind of food in my tank. When I looked closer I saw that he was actually swimming right through the food with his mouth open. He is one fat fish.

try some emerald entrese.its and algae based frozen cube with mysis.yout hippo needs to be fed 2-3 times per day.thaw before feeding to the fish.I thaw my foods in a small amount of tank water with 2 drops of garlic extreme.as for nori sheets this is ok as a treat but is not meant to use as a stable diet.lettuce is water it has not nutrients for you or your fish.as for other foods that are good for him he is an herbavore but does like a little meat in his diet.I use veggie flakes by omega one alternating thera+A antiparesitic non medicated pellets by spectrum for am feeding ,seaweed selects for daytime snacks, emerald entrese as pm feeding ..obvously this fish is new to your system.home remody and so called diet replacements is not a good idea for your fish.tangs are prone to ich the only way to prevent death from this pest is proper nutrition and in return this will help your tang from getting a bad case of to begin with

Our blue hippo is the biggest pig in the tank. He eats anything. Mostly we feed mysis shrimp and seaweed selects during the day. As long as he is eating, the what isnt as important. We have never fed flakes to the fish, I was told by the LFS owner that the flakes have a good amout of phosphate in them and we try and limit that in the tank as much as possible.

Hippos are Planktivores so make sure it get most of its food from small meaty marine food. The Mysis suggestion was excellent.
I'd avoid feeding lettuce and try Nori or Laver instead.
