What canister filter should I get?

I am getting my next order in place and need some advice. I want to add a 2nd canister filter to my system. I have a Filstar XP3 right now. I am going to make this canister nothing but filters. I can fit 12 filters in this canister. I am looking for a canister filter that can how a ton of media and good water flow. I want to spend around $400 or less. I also want one that is good for reefs since I am going to be adding coral pretty soon. Thanks for your advice.

I have the Fluval FX5 and am really happy with it. I like the idea of two canister filters you can clean one at a time and still ensure you have good bacteria in the one (Flower's suggestion).

Fluval hands down, the most important feature is how easy it is to do maintenance. Most canister filters hold plenty of media and with a spray bar have great flow on the water surface. Of the many types I have used over the years I really like the fluval best.

Never had a Fluval, so I can not comment, BUT I have 2 Cascades....and I really like them...they have the spray bars also, have the turn off valves for easy disconnect....
ok...that's all I have to say about that

The fluval FX5 also has the shut offs - I like that feature as well Meowzer, It also has a drain at the bottom of the canister to purge it if you wish.

Fluval shut offs are much easier than the Cascade.
The Cascade has regular off switches you disconnect by unscrewing the hose coupling on each hose, first you turn off the blue one, then disconnect it..Then you shut off the other switch and unplug the unit, then you unscrew the final coupling.
Fluval has a main switch you lift and it cuts off the water to both hoses at once , then you unplug and lift the silver switch which frees the hoses altogether. Then service the unit.
Fluval brand you have to purchase the spray bar separately but Cascade comes with one included.

I recently added this to my tank and it's working well. This would be my suggestion.

Because I run two canisters I can get away with a 305 Fluval for my 90g. The Cascade is for up to 100g, it was my original. If I ever lose the Cascade I will replace it with another 305, and yes I believe the FX5 is rated for bigger tanks. If however you are going to run two, you can cheat on size.

I don't know what to do? If i buy the 305 and save money I can spend it on other things or should I get the FX5.

OK...How big is your tank? Isn't it a 125

SO...why would you buy a filter that is only good UP TO a 90G....IMO you buy bigger.....I would buy a filter that is up to 200G's
