in my 20 I only drip fresh water in a softie/lps nano ....I do buffer my water to make sure the PH is accurate before a water change.
Unless you are keeping a SPS tank I'd think regular water change schedule would be your best bet. It replaces trace elements and exports wastes and polluntants ....

B-Ionic is fine.
Most hobbiests don't realize that some softies consume more Calcium than SPS.
Be sure to test for PH, Ca, and ALK so you know how much to add. The trick is to add exactly the amount used by the corals.

Really?? which ones? My calcium always test in the high 400 range (480 last test) so I was not worried much about testing for it except every so often ... now I'm worried ...

Button Polyps, Leathers, Cabbage coral, etc. They derive their structure from Calcium carbonate sclerites. They don't have as much in their skeleton but they grow many many times faster.
