ive tried feeding them some flakes like all the other fish eat but the cardinals will sometimes suck on in and then spit it out. will they eventually eat the flakes if i keep feeding them flakes? or do i have to feed like brine or something?

carnivores. look up how to make food out of shrimp, clam, fish, oyster, mussels, etc, in the disease forum. all your fish will love you.

These fish prefer meaty foods over anything. Mine never ate flakes. Try mysis shrimp, frozen plankton, things like Marine Cuisine. They may accept pellets as well. Flakes are not a good diet for these fish.

Start them off with the frozen meaty foods. They are also nocturnal and hunt pods at night. Mine took a couple of weeks to eat the food I offered. First food to eat was the whole pieces of the mysid shrimp. Now he is as big a pig as my clowns and eats everything. You can get that multipack in the frozen also Mine loves the squid.

My Cardinal also never ate flakes, but he would take pellets and frozen meaty foods.
I've heard of Cardinals eating cleaner shrimp - but I think that happens very rarely.

Cardinals can adapt to flakes over time but should be fed meaty foods. Try some ghost shrimp. Add some fresh garlic juice then taper the fish off to frozen using the garlic juice. The fish will associate the smell.

I think our hobby would be better off without flake food; there are so many other options that are better and just as easy.

So I just added two Bangaii Cardinal's to my 55G tank on Tuesday night. They haven't eaten anything since they were added. I have tried frozen silverside's, frozen brine, frozen mysis, flake, and pellet and they have only sucked it in and just spit it right out. They have also been hiding up behind my powerhead during the day. I have noticed some posts regarding these fish being nocturnal and if that is true then that would explain why they hide all day. But does that mean they should be fed at night??

Just wanted to ditto that my cardinal won't touch the flake. Never would.
He'll only eat meat. Favorite is mysis. He follows me around the room at feeding time, and is the first to rush to the food.
