What do I need to keep a Stingray?

So, What? This has nothing to do with my tank. I will buy a seprate tank. How do you keep them, can you hand-train them, just generally I want info. (SWF.com dosen't have any)

IMO they get too large for captivity, at least too big for anyone except large public aqariums, and can be very hard to keep. You need a small ocean

Are you sure? I have heard that they are incredibly hardy, but you must feed them live food. (no problem for me)I don't know about the largeness deal, so i'll trust you on that one.

I heard blue spotted stingrays need at least 150g that should be about 30"deep because they get 12"(without the tail) long and 12" wide and the tank shouldn't have a lot of decor and should have a deep sand substrate so they can bury themselves

Ya Jim is right, but, I would get at least a 200 gallon for one.

You should pick up a book. It does not have much but has some general info on all marine fish. Info such as tank size requirements, feeding, general info on compatability and personality.

From what I have heard they are extremely prone to bacterial infections, and yes they get large and Im just the type of person who thinks that if something gets past a certain size its just not fair to keep it in captivity if you cant supply a large enough area. If a ray gets 12" not counting the tail I would think even a 200 gallon would be snug, but Ive never kept one so its beyond me. if im not mistaken Sammystingray had a blue spot, you might try and talk to him.

Hmmm... I've heard that if you get it small, it will grow to the general max size it can be for it's tank. Oh well, I'll try to get that book Salsbury AD.

I just finished reading that they will attack you while servicing the tank.
It says here that when you are cleaning the inside of the tank that you should get a screen or a divider to hold the ray at the other side of the tank and they should be fed with a pole.
Also as they get older they become ugly and mean. The only disirable one in the species it the blue spot.

BHAV_2K, thats a myth, only reptiles grow to the size of their enviroment. Im not sure but if you get it small it may take several years for it to max out.

you should get live sand most def, there stomachs are snesitive like sharks
