what do i need

i have everything for my tank except a filter and the live sand. I dont want to put to much live rock in it. Not just yet. What is the best filter for a 20 gallon Fish only tank with minimal live rock. I just want to know before i spend the money for the last item.

I have a 20 gallon fish only tank. It has only 7 pounds of live rock and crushed coral rather than sand (I'd like to switch, but have had no real problems with the CC in this tank so I decided not to change just yet). I use an HOB filter rated for 20-40 gallon tanks. My clownfish and chocolate chip starfish have been doing wonderfully for 2 years now with no problems at all.

It's a cheap Aqua Tech HOB filter from Wal-Mart.
I use the Salifert test.
