What do you recommend--Goby or blenny?

I want a fish with a lot of personality. I have a 55 gal tank with damsels in it that I intend on returning to LFS soon. I want a peaceful tank with color and personality. I was thinking of a goby or blenny for a fish with a lot of personality, but I've never had either. Can anyone give me their 2 cents worth? Any other fish would work also. I've just heard that these two are fun to watch. I also want something that's fairly hardy/easy to maintain. Thanks for the help.

i love my goldenhead sleeper goby. dont judge him by it's name sleeper .. I have one and he's great he eats sand and eats things in the subtrate ! he loves to swim and mine loves mysis shrimp. the rest of the sand will just fly out of his gill and he'll eat the food !! doesn't hat sound awesome already. lots of personality, have a tight hood. these bad boys jump. mine jumped outta a bucket during acclimation

Hi, I have a lawnmower blenny and a 4wheeldrive goby. They don't bother eachother at all. I enjoy watching them both! :joy:

i personally like gobys better because almost all gobys are carnivores making it have more food to eat and the blennys are mostly herborviors (can never spell that word right) which makes its hard to feed IMO unless you have a lot of algae in your tank.

Thanks so far for all the input. I'll have to go look at the sleeper goby. I was actually thinking of a lawnmower blenny, but then someone said that they will eat the algae in the tank and then starve to death. They said it's hard to get them to eat other food. The four wheel drive goby is another one that caught my eye a few times. I'll go look these up again (for the hundredth time). Too much fun! :yes:

I almost forgot. I have a new tank. I don't know if I have hair algae, which I read is what a lawnmower blenny eats. I don't even know what it looks like.

i'll try to get a pic of him sifting sand so you can get a picture of how he does it. the stripe across it's face is kind of neonish. so it' looks pretty nice

Thanks for the pics. He looks and sounds really cool. But does he require any special care. I assume he needs live sand. I plan to get that soon. I just added some live rock recently. I read once on here not to get the sandsifters, that they cause problems in some way. I forget exactly. Have you had any problems? I think the sandsifters are very interesting. Thanks again!

no not at all .. just becareful on some of the sand sifters. they spit sand all over your tank. my g-head sleeper puts it right back where it was. IMO they're graet helpers and don't need that much care at all you can have crushed coral any kind of subtrate. he'll eat off rocks and more.

i should have before and after pictures. I had such dirty disgusting sand i siphoned some out, but some areas i just can reach so when i got the goldenhead sleeper (hoover) he just cleaned my sand, not its sparkly WHITE !

i recommend a bi-color blenny.
my experience with that particular goby was that it devastated my pods population.

My opinion of a perfect tank ..........a pygmy angel, clown(s), a bi-color blenny and a pistol shrimp/shrimp goby pair. I love this combination of fish, they are colorful and also entertaining. Clowns are so cute to watch wiggle as they swim, pygmy angels cruise all around the tank with their brilliant colors, bi-color blennies are the tank 'watchman', and a shrimp-goby pair are so fun to watch if you don't mind the mess. My shrimp goby did that sand through the gills thing too and it hurt to watch. :happyfish
