I don't know what size tank you have, but you don't need 400W MH!!!!!!! The 250's would work just fine!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious, do you have more info on her set-up, that she doesn't need 400W at that deep of a tank?

What do you think, do i need the 250 w or the 400 w. (also putting in vho for actinic)
its a 150 gal, 29 inch tall.
want to keep shrooms, zoos, xenia, leathers, maybe a clam latter for my husband, and i may want to try my hand at other stuff later once i get things going good. so i guess i want to be able to keep just about anything. :happyfish :cheer:

Alot depends on placement of corals. People tend to put clams at the botom of a tank, which would require High powered light to reach the bottom. Depending on your sand bed depth, you would probably be better using 400W, Especially if the price diff is only $30. Everything I've read (mostly on this board) suggests that:
1 MH bulb for 2 feet of water surface, and
250W MH is good up to approx 22-24 inches, and 400W (or 250HQI) is needed for deeper tanks.
As I previously said, much of this depends on Coral type and placement. LPS tend to do better in medium light, so you could probably use the 250W and put them mid to lower position. Acros and MOST clams require high light, so with 250W, they would need to be at the top, with the 400w, you could put them pretty much anywhere.

Again that's your opinion and I'm almost positive on a 150 250W MH would be more than enough......
