What do you think?

45 pounds of Live Rock is coming tomorrow. My tank is currently in the 80's on Nitrate ppm. My question is this, should I still cure for a long time untill there are no nitrates in the water, or cure for a day allowing the dead stuff to fall and then throw it in the tank? Obviously if my Aquarium was at 5ppm on Nitrates I would cure this stuff for a month but my water quality is already poor which is making me think the sooner I can get that rock in the better.
Thanks,
Peter

If there's no livestock in the tank then I'd put it right in. If you have fish I'd make sure the rock is cured first.

I would still scrub off all the visable die off on the rock. Do a 20% water change and then put in the rock and be ready after that in a day or three to do another water change. Any amount of ammonia is harmful to all the beneficial things so watch for that as well.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I currently have a large stars and stripes puffer in the display tank. I went ahead and set up two 20 gallon longs. I plan on scrubbing the rock upon delivery, how should I scrub it? Should I buy a bottle of Rock Prep (its a bottle with some type of cleaning chemical). Also how do you scrub off the stuff? Should I hold the rock under water while scrubbing the dead decaying stuff? I am going to put the rock in the 20 gallon tanks, let it sit 24 hours and then do a large water change on both aquariums and test the water to see what everything is looking like. Then after a few days I will put it in the display and monitor the ammonia and nitrite extremely close. Does this sound good?
Thanks!
