You can add more LS this is done all the time and is better then just one size. I don’t know the ratio though. Found more info: The mix ratio should allow the fine grain to fill the spaces between the larger grains. According to Dr. Ron Shimek’s article in Coral mag Oct/Nov 2007

so i can add more LS thats ok. It was either that or i was going to start taking some of it out.Im just worried about the uneaten food that gets caught up in the crushed coral.GEOJ thanks alot for your reply

I personally like the look of a fine grain sand bed, so if it was me in the same boat, I would screen out the crushed coral and go with all LS, as this will make the tank look better (well to me anyways haha). Also, crushed coral can become a nitrate factory if you do not keep up with tank maintainance so be sure you are willing to take the time to keep that tank in ship shape if you decide to stick with the CC.

erhm, I would not add a big layer of LS to any established tank. The main purpose of Live sand is to speed up the cycling process by means of an ammonia spike. So adding a big layer of LS to an established tank will do the same thing and make a huge ammonia spike which obviously is harmful to all living things in your tank.
Just my 0.02 though.

the crushed coral will always make it to the top. it doesn't matter how much the sand ratio is.
it's not bad that you put the cc on top....it's bad that you added it at all.
if you are looking to remove it...it's pretty easy, but will cause cloudiness for a few days. pick up a plastic spaghetti strainer from the dollar store and put it over a bucket with some saltwater in it. use your basic net to scoup out handfuls of sand and put them in the strainer and shake it in the water in the bucket. it will separate the sand from the cc easily and effectively.
btw- i'd return the live sand and buy dry aragonite if you want to add more. it's going to do the same thing eventually anyway.
