Can I add the three Blue Reef Chromis at once, or one, then two?

Careful when attempting that though.. you may overload the biological filter and end up with only one or two anyways.

That's what I was worried about, but it's been up for over a year, with over 100lbs lr and a filter. I'll do a water change and test the water before adding them. I'll wait before adding the next fish.

Chromis will not school when they are in groups of 3 anyways.. you'll end up with a large (large for chromis) dominate one that'll constantly chase the two lessers. In order to make them school you'd probably need like 6+. These little fish are a lot of fun to watch... but they are horribly mean towards their own brothers :p

speg, I have not found that true. I bought three at once, and they have been togehter for a little over 6 mo now, they are three diff sizes, and they all get along very well, swimming together all the time.

Really? Awesome. Mine will swim together sometimes.. but most of the time the big one will chase the two little ones around for fun.. damage is never done to their fins/body.. shockingly. :p
It is also said that the fewer their numbers the more aggressive they become.
Though since you dont have a problem, maybe there is hope =c)

I disagree that adding three small chromis will upset the biological filtration. No more than adding one large tang..... This is a 75gallon tank we are talking about not a 20gallon.
And there is the possiblity that three chromis will not school, you would be better off with 5.

Thanks, okay, I'm really not sure about 5 though, that's nine fish! way too many for me. I'm pushing it with seven (I know the tank could handle it...but I like to give fish lots of room...I mean I only had two fish in 55gl for a few years).
So, could I add three same fish who were different at once? I'm really not seeing why I couldn't.... or if I could add five chromis could add two clowns and three other fish? :notsure:

in general I prefer to add only a couple of fish at a time to a tank, if they are small. But in the cases of schooling fish it is best to add the group at the same time. You "may" get a small spike as the bacteria has to increase in your tank but it should not be long and should not be harmful. If you wanted to add 5 chromis you could do that, Just be sure you wait a full month before adding anymore fish.
And yes in a 75 gallon tank, I think you can have a school of 5 chromis, a pair of clownfish and at least a couple more small fish. Just go slowly, you seem to be very cautious and that is good, I dont think you will have trouble.
Add the Clowns then a month later add the chromis, then a month later go with the midas blenny. Always watch your water levels, go easy on feeding and if things are still good then add another small fish and see how your tank is doing.

Thanks, that's a lot of fish for me, I might skip the chromis or get just one. That's too many fish for me.
