what eel can i get?

My office has 55 gallon tank with blonde naso tang, engineer goby, two damsels and another goby. I want to get an eel, but I didn't know what size/ kind to get. I was thinking about maybe the barred moray eel.

A snowflake eel is good for a 55.. but any eel will eat the gobbies and the damsels....
on a differnt note, the tang should not be in a 55... they need a min of 6' of swimming room

Our receptionist has been ordering the fish so far and I will let her know about the tang. I really appreciate the heads up. Unfortunately, we are learning as we go. Do you think keeping the eel well fed would help with not eating the other fish? Also, what about the barred moray or the green wolg eels? Thanks for the help.

Green wolf eel will do fine in a 55. Make sure that there is plenty of rock for him to hide in. Also, make sure the top doesnt have any holes, or it will find its way out... and that could be a problem!!
About the food thing... Keeping them well feed will not stop them from eating the damsels or the gobby. The gramma (depending on its size) should be fine.

first and formeost dont just jump into an eel purchase or you will regret it, as said they need "escape proof" tanks. Any chance given they will jump out and go carpet surfing, also IMO you should get a snowflake, herdy , great species . I would stay away from any morays though because they tend to be pretty aggressive and will eat aveerything in your tank. Also you need alot of rockwork , dens, holes, caves, etc for the eel to hide in to feel safe.

Thanks for the info. As I have looked into this more I have decided to get my own tank in my office. I would like to have an eel, lionfish, trigger, puffer, etc. I really appreciate the help and I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions once I get my tank.

Good decision, dont rush anything do alot of reading . Also when you get your own tank in your ffice try to get as big as possible if you want an aggressive tank cause most species get very large!!

i have a snowflake eel and in the tank is a small chromis. hermits and a permint shrimp along with snails. the eel has not eaten the other guys but im waiting on the day. it has been about 2 months since i added the chromis

I have a snowflake moray eel. Like you heard everyone say they are best escape artist. But maybe even more astonsishing is how smart they are, or at least mine guy is. I had my tank locked down like fort Knox. The guy still managed to swim up in a power filter and i had to take out the media filter to let him swim out. That was the first week i had him. Year and half later he never tries to get out(he learned a valuable lesson thank goodness). He comes to the top to feed and that's it. Only problem i ever had. Beyond that i have found they are the easiest fish to care for.(i'm problay bias). I have had ich get in my tank and he never came ill. But i would say one thing and i think most would agree; once he's in the tank you don't want have to plan on moving if possible agian. They are snake like and hard to control in a net. Plus they limit your selection of fish of course. But they do have a personality. Mine will come to the side of the tank next to the couch. When he is hungry for food. So they can be personable too. To each his own and i would think about it long and hard before buying one.
