What exactly is the right temp???

I am confused as to the right temp to keep in a reef tank. I read that you were supposed to keep it between 75 and 79. I see alot of people here keep theirs at 80. My temp swings a bit anywhere from the low side of 78 to the high side of 79. I can't seem to keep it at 78 all day especially during the day when the sun peers thru the picture window. Is this okay for a 75 gallon?

yeah that temp is alright I would bump the heater up to 79 so you can keep it a more constant temp though and get rid of that 1 degree temp swing.

I wouldn't want sun shining on my tank, you can get unnecessary algae blooms and such. I keep mine at 78 degrees by way of a chiller; my halides push the temp near to 90 if I don't :)

Never expose a tank to direct sunlight. The inhabitants are cold blooded, the water temp is their body temp. The range of temperature you mentioned would take 6 months in their natural environment. Imagine your temperature going from 98.6 to 101 that quickly.
