i have a 46 bow fish only and on it i just have a HOT Magnum 30 with a bio-wheel and carbon. and a cheap airstone driven skimmer. I've never had lr or ls in this particular tank and haven't had any problems. (once it matured of course)
good luck

I have a 30 gallon reef and I run a 280 with a small skimmer it does great. I do have 4 inched of LV Sand and about 40 lbs of live rock. I could probably just go with the skimmer and powerhead. But we all want to be careful.

a skimmer remora pobally will be enough. Hang on is what you want or are you doing a sump? The manderine don't get if you are getting a wrasse. The wrasse will eat all its food. And if you do get a manderine wait at least 6mo so the pod population will grow but you still may have a hard time if it doesn't take prepared foods

I don't recommend Mandarines for community tanks.
My 29gal reef has 1 powerhead, 2 power filters and an airlift skimmer. No Mechanical filtration has been used(ie pads, bags, balls etc.)
