What Hang On Filter Would U Recommend

hi guys,
im am in the process of buying a 55 or 75 gallon tank, and i was wondering about hang on filters, which ones are the best. i dont want to deal with a sump. so wut would u guys recommend for a hangon filter that does its job. i was thinkin and EMPEROR 400 or an AQUACLEAR 110. comment bak please!!! i need to no by tomorow!!!

so i guess tht means your buying your tank tomrrow or sometime soon? :cheer:
well i liek penguin/emperor cus its simple with the aquaclear its got this different filtrattion cus its a square and its got liek blocks of the filter cartridge thingy and on top iots got charcoal, then a sponge.
so overall i liek penguin/emperor.
if you go with a 75 go with a emperor 400. and get a good skimmer
im not sure about the 55 though
thought about a fish list yet? i know tht is the funnest part lol

I would go with the aquaclear 110. It seems like the emperors don't have a lot of flow thew the whole media. (unless thats just mine.)
The aquaclear has a lot of flow and all the water goes though the media. So like chemi pure would fit perfect in there or something else you use in the filter if you want to take out the other media thats in there.

yep i dont have a problem with my emperor it isnt for movemnt. i use a few power heads for movement
if the current through the media is too strong wont the benificial bacteria just come off :thinking:

thats wut i need to no how much do power heads cost and do they jus clip on the tank?

For some reason i believe the whisper filters are the best,.. they work great, are the cheapest and i have had many leaking AC's before. All you should be using a HOB for is carbon anyway so the Whisper should do great!

I had a Penguin bio-wheel for years and it worked great, and I recently switched to an Aquaclear once the Penguin wore out and I'm happy with it as well.

I have a Penguin 350 and a Smaller whisper both on my 75 right now.....I would say the Penguin is alot nicer. I originally had two whisper's but they break down so easily i could only get enough working parts out of two to keep one running....

I had 2 Emp 400's on my 65 before I switched to SW. Now I have an aquaclear 70 on it and an a.c 500(110)on my 125. I like the A.C's better, the filtration method is more versatile, they're really quite and the flow is great. Why shouldn't you use them for flow also? And filtration? H>O>B's provide a good easy means for mechanical and chemical filtration and are easy to maintain.

you can buy a maxi jet 900 here for 16 bux but at my lfs i paid 32

so buy them from here
so you now know tht the whispers can/could break down and some have liked the Aqua clear because of the filtration method but have said that the penguins/emperors are nicer. :thinking:

I use my powerfilters for the stuff that floats on top of the water plus the flow. Then i put chemi pure in my powerfilter. chemi pure rocks
