I've been trying to google to see the outcome of the hearing... but am somewhat overwhelmed because of all the sites that merely address the issue - pro and con - PRIOR to the hearing.... No longer wanting to be frustrated, I just thought I'd ask on this site..... What was the outcome result of this bill? Passed? Tabled for further review? Still awaiting the final tally? What??????????????

it's anything BUT dead.
theyre taking testimonies on the pros and cons of the bill. make no mistake, unless congress's term ends, SOMETHING is going through.

its back for revision. some form of that bill will come back for discussion, I guarentee.
Bottomline, unless we (the hobby) start considering self policing, and monitoring the govt will step in. We (the hobby) were lucky this time that the bill was about invasive animals, w/o much knowledge of what is or isnt invasive. Next time it will be about transport or some other issue they can latch onto

Well, although probably an unpopular opinion - I do believe there should be SOME restrictions on importing.... Take for example Florida's invasion of "exotic pets" who grow too large for the purchaser - who then sets them free in the Everglades - creating a menace to the natural wildlife, general public and even those who have to attempt "capture"... Then let's not forget the numerous chimps and lion/tiger/etc cubs brought in for pets then once grown destroyed, caged, sold for experimentation of drugs, make up you name it, etc... It would be nice to believe that all people are responsible pet keepers - but there is enough evidence to prove the contrary... Even when it comes to our lovely aquariums - are there any of us who can state that we have never suffered a loss from anything other than "old age"??? --- Still, we are human - and as such we will always have pets... Some of us will try to take care of our pets and some of us won't.... Guess it all boils down to common sense regarding the type of animal imports and how much regulation is needed along with a careful eye on all species to avoid extinction... It seems to me that major research is needed before a final decision should be made into law....

so rumors are...
that the senators office that initiated the bill is meeting w/ their chief opposing forces to help rewrite HR669 and amend it to make it more satisfactory. Possible including some revised form of a "white list(inclusion list-instead of exclusion list).
