One guy is breaking down his reef tank and currently have a flame angel in that tank and he said he has no issue with it for about a year and a half. He has softies, LPS and SPS corals in his tank. What are the chances of that angel fish eating my corals, if I take the fish from him? In other words, is that possible for flame angels to develop appetite for corals as they get older? Thanks.

Flame angels are *usually* reef safe, but it depends to some extent on the personality of the fish... or fishonality I guess...

I'd say the chances of success are pretty good. Just observe closely for a while.

Yeah, That's why these forums are so important; there are so many questions that really can't be answered in books, etc; because the only correct answer is "Maybe, maybe not."

I have done exactly that - taken a flame angel from someone else's reef tank and put it in my own without any problems. If the angel is fed regularly (not to be confused with often) then it will usually not develope an appetite for the corals.

Thank you guys. Now a follow up question, how often should I feed the flame angel in order for the fish not to be interested in corals? Right now, I am feeding fishes only once a day since I don't want nitrate in my tank to be high, but the guy who is selling me the angel said he feeds three times a day which I think is a bit too much. (when I said about feeding once, twice, I am talking about neither overfeeding nor underfeeding, just the right amount). Thanks again.
