So what is better then a canister or wet/dry filter for a fowlr?
Filters are a personal choice...
I use a canister for my 90g...the reason why is that it takes up very little space, they run completely silent , you can use different media in the filter chambers, and it has a spray bar that creates great water flow on the top of the tank, also they are sealed so I have no worries about contaminants like dog hair.
The reason folks don't like them...I think...they are easy to forget and so don't get serviced enough, which causes problems. They do have to be cleaned about once a month depending on bio-load. Frankly it is a 15 minute job from start to finish.
I am sure someone will post the pros and cons of the wet/dry for you
