What is better for reef... Sand or crushed Coral?

Hi, I wanted to know what is better for a reef tank... sand or crushed coral?

Live sand is good for reef tanks. Crushed coral holds in nitrates and nitrites. You should definately go with live sand because it has living organisms in it along with good bacteria. HTH!

Go with about 4"-5" of LS, it'll help control the nitrates.

All LS is not created equal. Make sure you get Live aragonite sand, that is very important in helping buffer your tank.

Thanks Damsel, Wolf, and Burn for the advice. I am just so used to gravel that I thought crushed coral would be better... One more question, when you change the water, do you use a gravel cleaner?...

Wouldn't with LS. It would suck up the sand unless you have a bigger grain and you skim over the top.

Thanks for the advice... Should you put crushed coral under the sand? I have alaso heard that and wondered if it is a good idea...
