I have a 90 gallon reef tank that has been setup for 8 months. My levels are sg 1.026, temp 78-80, nitrates ammonia 0, cal 400, alk 3.0. I have t-5 lighting. Corals i have candy cane, frogspawn, bubble, 4 rics, zoos, gsp, lobo brain and my torch. I've had my torch for about 4 months now and i started out with 6 heads 3 have died and now there is another one starting to go. All the heads started out fine then one started dieing and i thought it was dieing because it was over shadowed a bit by the other heads but then when that one died another one started to close and that one eventually died and then another. I'm down to 3 heads 2 of them are doing really good and now i got another one started to close up its a chain reaction i can't figure out what is going out can someone please help me? I don't have any fish that bother my corals either.

Um I would first of all break off the ones that are dieing and remove them as to not spread whatever is happening. Ive heard of this are the deing ones letting out a gue, bc if so I think it is just a diease that will spread to the whole colony if you dont remove them.

good advice above.. search the torch coral on here there was just a similiar post, basically as said break off the dying heads get as mucha s you can,, syphon out the brown jelly or it will kill other corals. once you stop it the other heads will be fine but if not they will die as well and take other corals with it.. it happened to me on a 15 or so head torch,, but i ended up keepign aot of them because i fragged it quick and just discarded the bad ones( they only get worse, not better)

I seem to be having a similar issue 3 branches 5 heads. no signs of infection but not fully opening, I think I'm going to try to frag it see if one half recovers.

I don't know if this will be helpful or not but....
I have a torch that we bought awhile back (many months) and it was doing great, for awhile... the 2 of the heads started to close up and the fleshy part at the top of the head started to receed. I pulled it out of my 125g and into the nano, less flow and the lights are no where NEAR as strong.
Now, in the less than 3 weeks the thing has doubled in size - the 2 that I thought were dead are growing like crazy!!!
Maybe completely unrelated but thought i'd share ?

if they are on the top, under MH's - just try moving them lower maybe.
I know before I bought my torch, I read somewhere that they needed high light and high flow then....
read everywhere else that they need moderate light and moderate flow. Mine seem to be doing really really well under moderate light to light flow

I tend to think that the excessive flow mine had in the bigger tank was the problem.
Now that they are in the nano, their tentacles will bareley, gently move with the current and they seem to LOVE it.
I don't know if this is what others have experienced but it has really worked well with mine for the last 3 weeks.
Good luck!
