What is it about Labbies?

I have a small part time business doing in home dog care for customers of my other small part time business, on call handyman services. I took home a new guest tonight, Max (now that's a creative name for a Black Lab!) and while I have met him before while working for his owners, this is the first time I have overnighted him. Turns out that he is, as I expected, a very sweet, easy going, friendly, and obedient guy. I let him off leash in the open park behind my house and he was great-just running with my Hound Mix Goldie (on the left in my avatar), chasing squirrells, playing tug of war with every stick he could find, wrestling w/Goldie over some particularly juicy sticks, and coming to me immediately whenever I called him. He has no food issues whatsoever, and is just the nicest darn dog. After Goldie of course, who enjoys dominating Max.
While I am a big time dog person and love just about any dog I meet, this guy is more than living up to the stereotype of Labs as being nice easygoing, friendly, and social dogs.
You could do a lot worse than have a Lab in your house!

Labs are the best breed of big dogs. They make good housepets too. Sure they shed, but it could be a LOT worse.

labs are great....but having had my jaw bruised more than a couple times by them while working as a vet-tech, I can emphatically say that MANY of them are far too hyper for me.
I prefer my Roland. Nuthin' like a Basset Hound to warm your heart.... and your feet

Id take a lab or just about any large breed over a lap dog, all of them (lap dogs) I encounter seem to have to make up for something with attitude, or bladder control issues.

Yeah, ditto....and I have to say most Chocolate
labs do not fall into the easy-going category!! Blacks and yellows are more predictable....tho you do get a few "Marley's" ;)

I think the thing with labs is they are the most generalize category of dogs. If someone doesn't who what breed the dog is, they get labeled as labs. Or even the percentages of mixes out that have to have some bit of lab in them.
IME, if a dog is extremely hyper, it's not a lab, it's a mix. Purebreds should be loyal company. You should be able to leave a lab on your door step and after you get home from work 7 hours later, she should be still sitting their waiting.
After taking in three consecutive strays, my Mom wanted to finally 'pick a dog.' Here's our AKC papered yellow... She about a year in the photo and just a bit spoiled if you couldn't tell...

Yeah, if you've ever used petfinder or another site, 'lab mix' is pretty much the default breed if the dog is over 40 lbs.
Its also used as a cover if the dog is an 'aggressive' breed like a pit, rott, or doby.
I've always had a soft spot for chocolates. My best friend growing up had one, and it was the first dog I ever got along with. At some point we'll probably get one to complement our white husky.

I have a lab (Lab Britt spanial cross) who thinks he is a lap dog. You aint lived until you've had 90 pounds (at least) of Black Plague jump into your lap, or your chest

Love the picture, it looks like she is waiting for something. Could it be food?
