What is it and how do I get rid of it?

I have several patches of dense green growth. It feels like a brush and is approx. 1/8" long. I attempted to pull some off and it is really tough.
I wouldn't mind some of it but, it is starting to cover too much.
My LM Blenny loves to lay in it, I think he feels like he's sitting in a Lay-Z-Boy.

No, it is not hair algea. It is rather stiff and has the feel of a scrub brush.

It seems like a shaving brush, just not as long.
Does anyone know how to get rid, or at least slow it down a bit?
